Union Government accepted the 7th Pay Commission report with its own modifications. Being an IAS officer is a dream for many! Apart from being one of the most reputed job profiles in Sarkari Naukri section, IAS officers are the top level creamy layer of the Indian bureaucratic setup that gives them excellent authority and power. Despite the status and power, many are of the opinion that IAS officers are not paid well enough when compared to the private sector business managers. This use to be true traditionally but since the 6thPay Commission hike, the Salary of an IAS office has increased drastically. The hike has been further substantiated by the 7th Pay Commission
Despite being improved drastically, the salary of an IAS officer doesn’t really match up to the salary being offered in the private sector, but then people don’t become IAS officers for the money. IAS Grades and Pay Scales
The central government employees are one of the most well-paid government servants in the entire bureaucracy and IAS officers lie at the top of this pyramid. However, as mentioned in the 7th Pay Commission report, the Government Employees are paid as per their position and the associated pay scale. The Government Pay Scale is not the end salary but merely denotes the maximum and minimum salary on offer to the officer for that particular grade. The Pay scale is further supported by Grade Pay, DA, HRD and several other benefits.

These newly announced pay scales of 7th Pay Commission are not the full or in-hand salary of an IAS officer. The pay scale is used to determine the basic pay of the employee on the basis of which they are entitled to allowances and entitlements like Dearness Allowance(revised every year as per inflation index) and House Rent Allowance (generally considered as 40% of Basic) as well as TA.
